AHRS (Attitude and Heading Reference System) is a device which provides information about the spatial position of an object relative to the Earth. Feedback includes angles of pan, tilt and magnetic heading.
This type of measurement is possible via the fusion of three triaxial sensors of the MEMS type: accelerometer, magnetometer and gyroscope. This combination enables to obtain a nine-axis measurement system, which constitutes the basis of an effective position filter. All calculations are performed on the basis of a four-dimensional algebra (quaternions). This approach helps eliminate harmful, from the measurement point of view, integration of angles depending on trigonometric functions (possible division by 0).
With the solution provided by WB Electronics, the user has the flexibility in selecting filter amplifications. These are two values that allow to adjust the sensor, depending on needs: work in a highly disruptive environment, high heading measurement stability or fast drift elimination rate. The parameters are stored in memory, therefore, there is no need for a reset.
In the process of designing a particular emphasis was placed on minimizing the harmful effects of vibration and electro-magnetic field.
WB Electronics engineers also solved the popular “gimbal lock” problem that prevented measurement of extreme angles spatial position.
Moreover, the solution provided by WB Electronics is characterized by its small dimensions and relatively large number of interfaces (UART, RS-485, SPI) which allow integration with multiple systems, both ground and aerial systems.
